The yellow Welsh poppy is a hardy perennial that thrives in moist, shaded environments, particularly in hilly or rocky areas. It commonly grows on walls and along roadsides as well. While its natural habitat is in the damp woodlands of South West England and Wales, this plant has also become prevalent as a garden escapee in various regions. Blooming occurs from June to August, drawing in pollinating bees and other insects.
