Penstemon 'Husker Red'
Penstemon 'Husker Red'
Penstemon digitalis
Penstemon 'Husker Red Superior' is an exceptional variety, with many of its plants exhibiting beautiful bronze-red leaves. Delicate spikes of soft pink blossoms bloom in June. The fresh spring foliage pairs wonderfully with daffodils and tulips. In autumn, the leaves transform into a richer red hue. This cultivar, Penstemon digitalis 'Husker Red', was honored as the Perennial Plant of the Year in 1996. It is more tolerant of moisture compared to many other penstemon types, thriving in slightly damp, well-drained soil under full sun to partial shade. It is hardy in hardiness zones 3 to 9.
